Loss happens to everyone in life at some point. Sometimes, support is needed to help you through your grieving process.
As a qualified therapist, I will be present with you throughout this difficult time. We can work together to help you to heal and learn how to cope.
Bereavement counselling helps you to heal
It is the capacity to feel consuming grief and pain and despair that also allows me to embrace love and joy and beauty with my whole heart. I must let it all in – Anna White.
Experiencing the death of a loved one can be one of the most troubling parts of anyone’s life. Initially, you may be in shock, especially if your loss is sudden and unexpected, although, shock can also be experienced if the death is expected.
My counselling practice in Snitterfield near Stratford upon Avon and Leamington Spa can help to address some of the difficult emotions you may encounter following your loss.
You have experienced a distressing trauma. It is natural to feel overwhelmed by a whole range of emotions following the loss of a loved one, such as intense sadness, emotional pain and sometimes anger.
Learning to cope with your grief through counselling
Grief doesn’t just disappear, it has to be worked through, expressed and felt. This is where bereavement counselling, also known as grief counselling, can support you. The pain experienced can hurt tremendously and is often devastating.
Grief therapy helps you to cope with the loss you are experiencing. You will most likely never stop missing the person you have lost, but with the right support, you can start to piece your life together again.
For some people, walk and talk therapy in the local Warwickshire countryside can feel particularly supportive when processing grief and loss.
Other types of loss
Traditionally, we may consider loss relating to the death of a family member, partner or friend, but other challenges in life can also bring up difficult feelings. Some examples include:
- Relationship breakdown
- Death of a family pet
- Redundancy
- Loss of mobility such as with amputation
In any of these troubling situations, you could experience a wide range of emotions. These can be difficult to deal with and you may suffer from anxiety or depression. Hence, attending psychotherapy after a loss with an experienced counsellor, such as myself, can help you come to terms with these challenges. Enabling you to adjust to the loss and to find a new way forward.
Bereavement counselling experience and training
Through my own experience of loss, therapy helped me to adjust to a different life without my loved ones. I understand this can be a challenging journey to undertake. With help and support, you can feel positive again, which I have personally experienced.
Furthermore, my psychotherapy training has covered a wide variety of topics such as:
- Loss of a child
- Losing a parent
- Childhood and adolescent grief
- Sibling loss
- Losing an adult child
- Sudden death
- Loss through suicide
- Complex, disenfranchised and delayed grief
- Working with patients and carers pre and post death
I have worked at the Shakespeare Hospice in Stratford-Upon-Avon as a Volunteer Counsellor. In addition, I have a wide range of experience in grief counselling including researching adolescent bereavement specifically.

Frequently Asked Questions – Bereavement Counselling
What is bereavement counselling?
Bereavement counselling is a form of therapy that provides a safe, confidential space to explore grief and the impact of loss. It helps you to understand and express your feelings, work through the grieving process at your own pace, and gradually find a way forward.
How long does bereavement counselling take?
There is no set timeframe – grief is deeply personal and everyone’s journey is different. Some people find a few sessions helpful; others benefit from longer term support. We work at your pace, reviewing progress as we go.
Is it normal to feel angry when grieving?
Yes – anger is a very common and completely normal part of grief. You may feel angry at the person you have lost, at yourself, at others, or at the situation. These feelings are a natural response to loss and something we can explore safely together in counselling.
Can counselling help with grief?
Yes. Research consistently shows that bereavement counselling can help people process difficult emotions, reduce feelings of isolation, and develop ways of coping with loss. Many clients find that having a dedicated, non-judgmental space to talk makes a significant difference to how they move through grief.
Do I need bereavement counselling?
If your grief feels overwhelming, is affecting your daily life, relationships or work, or if you feel stuck or unable to move forward, counselling may help. You don’t need to reach a crisis point before seeking support – reaching out early is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Can I have bereavement counselling online?
Yes – I offer bereavement counselling online and by telephone as well as face-to-face in Snitterfield near Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington Spa. Many people find online sessions just as supportive as in-person sessions, particularly during difficult periods when travelling feels difficult. For those who find being outdoors helpful when processing grief, I also offer walk and talk therapy in the Warwickshire countryside near Snitterfield.
