How can counselling for depression help?
Counselling for depression and anxiety is about helping you understand yourself and the root causes of your depressive symptoms. Finding an experienced counsellor for depression can be a daunting task when you’re already feeling unwell.
I want to make this process as easy as possible for you. Through our work together, I will accompany you through these dark times. So, as your therapist, I will support you to develop strategies to cope with your depression and anxiety.
Deepening depression? Seek help
If you have continued low mood, you may experience suicidal thoughts which can be frightening. Together in therapy, we can explore some of these feelings and provide a space for you to speak about your darkest times. Previous clients have reported how this has enabled them to start to feel better.
Sometimes we may notice how our depression may be deepening. We may self-harm or use excessive alcohol or substances. These coping mechanisms sometimes soothe the pain of extremely difficult feelings. In our counselling sessions, we can work together on practising other ways of coping with depression.
Sometimes, if you feel low for a prolonged period of time, it may feel hard to appreciate activities you used to enjoy. Hence, it can be difficult to motivate yourself and this can affect your day-to-day living.
I am experienced in counselling clients who are feeling low and depressed because I have helped many people suffering from different levels of this distressing experience. Following our therapeutic work together many clients have gone on to live more hopeful and fulfilling lives.
An empathic and accepting counselling approach
My counselling approach for sufferers involves exploring your feelings and how things are for you. This builds an empathic relationship where you can feel accepted and not judged. This can help to open up issues which may be causing your depression, such as low self-esteem, bereavement, trauma or relationship problems.
At times, this work can feel daunting. So, as an experienced counsellor for depression, I will listen and emotionally hold you which allows you room to develop self-understanding. As a result, this can help to ease your depressive symptoms as you build awareness.
My counselling experience encompasses many clients who have suffered deep depression. Together we have managed to alleviate their symptoms and find a way forward.
We can work creatively
Sometimes, I work creatively which may help you to explore emotions in a different way. If agreed with you in advance, we can use art, poetry, writing or stones as a form of communication. Furthermore, working in this way can be especially good for people who find it hard to put their feelings into words.
