Depression Counselling

Depression is being colourblind and constantly told how colourful the world is – Atticus

How can counselling help depression?

My practice, based in Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon, offers face-to-face therapy. I offer counselling for depression, where together, we can explore the root causes of your depressive symptoms, all at your pace.

Finding a counsellor can be a daunting task when you’re already feeling unwell. So, I want to make this process as easy as possible for you. Through our work together, I will accompany you through these dark times. So, as your therapist, I will support you to develop strategies to cope with your despair.

Enquire About How I Work

Man with depression

Signs of a severely depressed state

Sometimes we may notice how our low mood may be deepening. We may self-harm or use excessive alcohol or substances. These coping mechanisms can soothe the pain of difficult feelings.

However, a cycle can start where feelings of shame and guilt can intensify our depressive state. So, in our therapy sessions, we can work together on practising other ways of coping with severe depression.

Furthermore, if you feel low for a prolonged period of time, you may find it hard to appreciate activities you used to enjoy. Hence, it can be difficult to motivate yourself therefore affecting your day-to-day living.

If you have continued low mood, you may experience suicidal thoughts which can be frightening. Together in therapy, we can explore these feelings safely and without judgement.

Does counselling work for depression?

Counselling provides a space for you to speak confidentially about your difficulties without fear of judgement. Previous clients have reported how this has enabled them to start to recover.

I have an extensive level of experience working with clients who are feeling low and depressed. I have helped many people who have been suffering from distressing episodes in their lives.

Following our therapeutic work together, many clients have gone on to live more hopeful and fulfilling lives. If overcoming your despair is the top priority in your life, then please do get in touch.

FAQs including Fees

An empathic and accepting counselling approach

My therapeutic approach involves exploring your feelings and how things are for you. This builds a trusting relationship where you feel accepted and not judged. It helps you to safely explore what may be causing your symptoms.

There may be many different reasons. Some clients report things that have contributed. These could include low self-esteem, abuse, bereavement, trauma or relationship problems. Whatever the issue, we can work together to improve how you feel.

Ease your depression

At times, this work can feel daunting. So, as an experienced therapist, I will listen and emotionally hold you. This allows you the room to develop self-understanding. As a result, this can help to ease your depressive symptoms as your self-awareness builds.

Together we can manage to alleviate your symptoms. Finding your way forward.

We can work creatively

Sometimes, I work creatively which may help you to explore emotions in a different way. So, if agreed with you, we can use art, poetry, writing or stones as a form of communication.

This method is to encourage you to use a different medium to unearth how you feel. Any creative work isn’t judged, but instead used to further understand your emotions.

Furthermore, working in this way can be especially good for people who find it hard to put their feelings into words.
